Foundation for Inclusive & Sustainable Habitats (FISH) is a not-for-profit organisation working to co-create liveable, inclusive, and climate-resilient small towns across India. Established as a Section 8 entity in 2018, FISH partners with small town municipalities and communities to strengthen climate-sensitive WASH systems that support everyday services and long-term resilience.
Working across 20 emerging urban centres, FISH designs context-specific, financially viable, and institutionally sustainable water and sanitation solutions for small towns - enabling integrated planning, mobilising finance, and building government capacity while linking global climate goals with locally grounded action.
We prioritise community engagement and stakeholder involvement throughout the planning and execution process, fostering a strong sense of ownership and ensuring solutions that are sustainable, resilient, and responsive to local realities.
Through interdisciplinary collaboration, applied research, and demonstration-driven learning, FISH also contributes to knowledge generation and sector dialogue, supporting evidence-based decision-making for local governments.
By integrating technical innovation with governance strengthening and behavioural engagement, the organisation advances service delivery pathways that not only address current infrastructure gaps but also prepare small towns to navigate emerging climate, demographic, and resource challenges in an equitable and adaptive manner.
